I've been feeling increasingly trapped at my current job. The company culture has turned toxic, and I'm seriously considering leaving, but I worry about the impact on my team. Recently, we've faced some troubling changes: revenues have plateaued while expenses, especially salaries, have skyrocketed. They've also increased in-office days from 2 to 4, changed the bonus policy to make it nearly impossible to earn one next year, and even removed holidays around Thanksgiving and Christmas. In my specific team, the workload has drastically increased. We went from managing 3 projects this quarter to 16 next quarter, which feels overwhelming. To make matters worse, my boss bullied our secretary until she left, and they won’t be backfilling her position. On top of that, my boss's boss is constantly hovering over us, monitoring our performance and looking for reasons to shut us down. This environment is not what I signed up for. I used to work in humanitarian efforts, helping malnourished children, and now I find myself in a role that feels completely misaligned with my values, helping electric cooperatives set their rates. I genuinely want to find a new job, but I feel guilty about leaving my team to handle this mess alone. They will have to deal with the increased workload without the support they need. I’m torn between my own well-being and my loyalty to my team. What should I do?
