I work part-time at a hotel that was recently acquired by a family conglomerate. I've been in this role for 11 years, earning about 60% of the industry standard, which is manageable for me since I'm on Social Security and have income restrictions. Currently, I work 16 hours a week, but with the recent departure of the full-time employee, I've stepped up to cover 4 days a week at 5 hours each. I requested a raise due to the increased hours and travel, but my request was denied. Instead, I received a $25 weekly gas allowance, which barely compensates for the extra effort. It's now week 8 of this arrangement, and while operations are running smoothly, I feel the strain. I doubt the new owners will prioritize hiring a full-time employee. I'm contemplating whether to give notice or ask for another raise before Christmas if things don't change. If they deny me again, I might have to consider leaving altogether.
