I’ve recently been made redundant from my role at a tech company, and while I’m still working for a little while longer, I’m facing some awkward conversations with colleagues. HR informed the team about my departure, but they framed it in a way that suggests I’m leaving voluntarily, which is far from the truth. Now, I’m getting questions about where I’m going and why I’m leaving, and I’m unsure how to respond without jeopardizing my severance. I want to maintain good relationships with my colleagues and possibly ask for references in the future, but I’m worried that doing so might reveal the real reason for my departure. I know I need to handle this situation diplomatically, but it’s frustrating to have to navigate these conversations while feeling like I can’t be honest about my circumstances. I’m also concerned about the legal implications of discussing my redundancy, especially since I signed an NDA.
