I recently experienced a layoff, which I can honestly say was the worst event of my adult life. The feeling of uncertainty and instability has been overwhelming. Since then, I've been in a constant state of thinking about applying for new jobs, just in case I find myself in that situation again. It's like I need a safety net. I've been considering whether I should ask my director during our next call about the possibility of a pay raise. My hope is that if I bring it up, I might get some insight into my job security and whether I could be at risk of being let go again. Any advice on how to approach this would be appreciated.

I was laid off two years ago, and it took me ten months to find a new job. I've been working as an IT Manager at my current company for a year now, but I can't shake the fear of being laid off again. Recently, I received feedback that I need to learn the functionality of the company better, which has left me feeling anxious. I was hoping to get a promotion by next year, but the PTSD from my last layoff keeps creeping in, making me doubt my chances. I worry that I might not only miss out on a promotion but also face another layoff.
