I just found out that my job is laying everyone off and relocating the business to a different state. I recently celebrated my two-year anniversary at this small e-commerce warehouse where I work as an assistant shipping manager, and I can't express how much this job has meant to me. After struggling with mental health issues and being out of work for several years, I finally found a place where I felt confident, learned new skills, and built genuine connections with my coworkers. I truly loved going to work every day, and I felt incredibly lucky to have that experience. Two days ago, my boss informed us that next Monday would be our last day, giving us only a week's notice despite knowing about the move for at least six months. It was frustrating to hear that he was waiting for someone to bring up the changes instead of communicating with us directly. The past couple of days have been heartbreaking as we've been packing up the business, and I found myself crying with my coworkers while we dismantled everything. My boss offered me a raise and a new position if I followed the business, but without health insurance, I felt it wasn't worth it. At almost 25, I don't think moving away for a dead-end job is the right choice, even though I love what I do. Now, I'm not sure what to do next. We will receive a month's severance, and while I can apply for unemployment, I need a job quickly. The market is tough, and most positions available pay significantly less than what I currently earn. I pay for everything myself, and my partner doesn't work, which adds to my anxiety about the future. I've been applying for jobs like crazy, anticipating this layoff, but I'm scared and uncertain about what will happen next. I've never been laid off before, and it feels awful. I'm going to miss my job and my coworkers deeply. These past two years have been the best of my life, and I just wanted to share my experience and vent a little.
