  1. 1

I recently applied for a DOSE Epidemiologist I position with the county, which opened on June 2nd and closes on June 16th. I submitted my application on June 10th. Currently, I'm a contractual employee with another county in Maryland, so I have some familiarity with the state system. I reached out to the HR analyst on July 10th for an update and was informed that I made it into the 'best qualified' pool of applicants, which is promising since I've only been in that ranking for a few other jobs. I have a B.S. in Biology and Health Science, along with an MPH in Epidemiology. My experience includes a year-long internship where I led a retrospective data analysis project in an Infection Prevention and Epidemiology department, using tools like SAS, EPIC, and Excel. I've also worked as a contractual Water Sampler for about seven months and am currently training as a full-time Environmental Health Specialist for the same county. The Epi position focuses on enhancing public health surveillance and requires an MPH in Epidemiology, but no prior experience is necessary. They are looking for candidates who can clean and analyze large data sets and develop presentations and reports. I'm curious about my chances of getting this position and how long I should wait before asking for another update. I'm considering reaching out again in the first week of August.
