I started a new administrative role three weeks ago, excited about the Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 5 schedule that was promised during my interviews. The written offer did mention that the schedule could vary due to business needs, but it never indicated that weekends would be required. However, after just four days on the job, my manager introduced a rotating schedule that now includes two Saturdays a month and one evening shift each week. I had specifically asked about the schedule before accepting the position because I care for my younger brother on Saturdays. When I brought this up, my manager insisted that weekend coverage was always part of the role and suggested that I must have misunderstood the initial discussions. I left my previous job for this position, so quitting immediately feels risky. I do have an email from the recruiter that outlines the weekday schedule, but I’m unsure how to approach this situation without harming my reputation so early in my career. I’m looking for advice on how to handle this without jeopardizing my job security.
