I had an interview for a position recently and was invited back later that week to shadow the team to see if it was a good fit for me. I rearranged my schedule and made the effort to show up, but after that, I didn’t hear anything for days. I decided to follow up and when I reached out to the hiring manager, she seemed evasive and struggled to provide clear answers. She promised to call me back after making a few calls, but four days went by without any communication. I later found out from a mutual acquaintance that they had already made their decision about who to hire before I even shadowed. It felt incredibly disrespectful to have me take time off work for something they weren’t genuinely considering me for. I just don’t understand why they would waste my time like that.
