Deciding Between Job Search and PMP Certification Preparation Amid Unemployment

I have been unemployed since February 2026 and my PMP exam is scheduled for the third week of December. I'm at a crossroads and trying to decide whether I should focus on my job search or dedicate my time to preparing for the PMP certification. Given the current job market, I’m unsure which path to prioritize. Some advice I received suggested that since I have a lot of free time, I could potentially do both—job searching and studying for the PMP. However, I’ve also heard that having a PMP certification has become somewhat standard in the Project Management field, meaning it might not give me the edge I need to stand out. It’s frustrating to think that obtaining this certification might not significantly improve my job prospects. I’m looking for thoughts on the best approach to take during this challenging time.
