I work as a concrete worker for a small company in Midwest Ohio, but my life took a turn when I slipped getting out of the shower about two months ago and tore my ACL. The pain was excruciating, and I had to call off work because I could barely walk. After a week, I decided to enter rehab to address my alcohol issues, which kept me away for a month. During that time, I had my knee checked out, but they only did an x-ray, which didn’t reveal the full extent of the damage. My knee buckled multiple times while I was in rehab, causing severe pain. When I finally got out and tried to return to work, I discovered my employer wasn't expecting me back and hadn’t communicated anything about my job status. After getting an MRI, I learned that I had fully torn my ACL and I'm now waiting for my next doctor's appointment to schedule surgery. Unfortunately, I can't work right now, and it appears that disability benefits through my job may not be an option. I'm looking for advice on how to generate some income during this difficult time. Are there any unemployment options or easier jobs I could consider until I can have my surgery?
