I’m currently working as a camp counselor at a summer camp, and I’m really considering quitting. The camp operates for about 6–7 hours a day, but with transportation and getting ready, I’m out of the house from around 7 AM until 5 PM. I’ve only been there a few days, but I’m already feeling exhausted every day. The pay for the entire summer is around $2,200, which feels really low given the hours and responsibilities involved. The work environment isn’t great either. I don’t feel like I fit in with my co-counselors, and some staff members have been rude to me. Honestly, I dread going in each morning. Right now, I’m thinking of sticking it out for about 4 weeks before I leave, since the camp runs for 8 weeks total. I just can’t handle it mentally anymore, but I’m really nervous about how to tell my boss. Part of me just wants to stop showing up and block everyone’s numbers since I don’t plan on putting this job on my resume and I live pretty far from the camp. I’m looking for advice from anyone who has worked summer jobs before: would it be a bad idea to quit after 4 weeks? If I decide to leave, is it worth giving notice, or should I just stop showing up?
