  1. 1

I recently applied for a research position at Mass General Brigham, but my application seems to have vanished without a trace. I hold a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and a master's in Pharmacology, and I'm currently finishing another master's in Animal and Vet Science, focusing on a neuroscience research project. My skills include various laboratory techniques such as western blotting, RNA/DNA and protein extraction, RT-qPCR, and more. I've conducted these assays independently in academic research labs, relying on my understanding of the biochemical principles involved. Despite my extensive training and having applied to over 100 research assistant and associate roles in both academia and industry, I’ve received very few responses—mostly rejections or complete silence. It's disheartening, especially when I put effort into tailoring my cover letters to highlight my qualifications and the value I could bring to each institution. I’ve noticed that some job postings remain active or get reposted even after I’ve applied, which makes me wonder if they are ghost jobs. Is this a common experience for others in the field? I’m also an international applicant with work authorization through my green card application, which adds another layer of complexity. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!
