I started a new job three weeks ago after losing my previous position in May. I quickly found this current role in June, but the salary is significantly lower than what I’m used to. I’m actively interviewing for a new position that offers $30k more than my current salary. To keep things simple, I’m pretending to be unemployed during these interviews. However, I’m starting to feel anxious about the possibility of my current employer being discovered during a background check if I land the new job. My plan was to use this current role as a temporary bridge until I find something more suitable, and I don’t want to list this job on my resume. I’m looking for advice on whether it’s possible for the new employer to find out that I’m currently employed.

I was let go from my job about 10 weeks ago due to performance issues, where I was earning $87k a year. Recently, I received a job offer for $76k, but salary is my top priority in this job search. I was hoping for something in the $80s range, and I'm now at a crossroads. Should I take this new job with the plan to continue searching for a better-paying role in the next 6-9 months, or should I hold out and keep looking for something more suitable? I've been fortunate to secure interviews since my termination, which is encouraging. If I do decide to take this job, I wonder how soon I can start looking for a new position again. I was thinking about waiting at least 6 months, but I’m concerned that might look bad on my resume. I have a solid work history with long tenures at my previous jobs, so I’m hoping that will help. Has anyone else switched jobs after just 6 months? I’ve seen some advice suggesting that taking the job could be a good move, especially since the job market seems tough right now. Some people mentioned that if I do take it, I could start applying for new roles right away without waiting. I’m really torn about the best approach here.
