I’ve been working in retail for the past five years while attending college, and now I’m applying for internships that require references from my current job. I thought I had a good relationship with my General Manager and supervisor, especially since I've always been reliable, never called off, and even covered shifts when needed. However, when I reached out to them two days ago for references, they just read my messages without responding. It feels like they might not want to help because they think I’ll leave if I get the internship, which is disappointing. I didn’t expect this reaction, especially since it’s common for staff at our store to move on to other opportunities. Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation? Any advice on how to handle this would be appreciated!
