I had a call scheduled with HR today, and I'm feeling anxious as I might be laid off. I've been with my company for five years, and it's been a great workplace. However, we've been going through some restructuring. Recently, a new head was hired for our team, who is my skip-level manager. I've had three meetings with her, and they were all quite uncomfortable due to her dismissive reactions. On September 30, she unofficially informed me that there wouldn't be a position for me in the new team she's building. She expressed that she likes my attitude and how I handle challenges, but the team is moving in a different direction, and she doesn't see a future for me. Despite my good performance, including awards and a promotion, I now feel completely ignored. The seniors in the organization are trying to help me find a new role, but there are no open positions available. This company is known for retaining employees and providing opportunities, so being in this situation feels surreal. I’ve been told that I might be the only one facing this, apart from those who have violated company rules. I’m preparing for the HR call, but I’m unsure how to respond if they mention letting me go. I’ve read that once a decision is made, it’s often final, and I should brace myself for the worst. It’s disheartening to think that the new management might be bringing in their own people while I’m left without a chance.
