Today, I was laid off during a call that was supposed to be about client updates. I joined the meeting expecting a normal discussion about our work with a client, but my manager joined late and immediately delivered the bad news. He explained that, due to business reasons, my role in technical product compliance was no longer needed. He added HR to the call, acknowledged my improvements, and then left me to discuss the termination details with HR. The whole experience was incredibly quick and left me shocked. I understand layoffs are part of business, but the abruptness of it all was really unsettling.
