I was recently let go from my role as a project manager after a 90-day review at an architecture firm. They felt I lacked the experience to manage projects independently, despite knowing my background was a bit outside the industry. During my interview, they admitted they didn't ask the right questions, and while they enjoyed working with me, they needed someone who could hit the ground running. I had a 60-day review with no negative feedback, but it seems my manager didn't trust me to take on projects solo. They offered to provide a reference and a letter of recommendation, saying I would do well elsewhere, just not in their current environment. This is my second layoff this year, as I was also let go from a previous job in June. I'm considering how to present this on my resume, especially since my last position was somewhat unrelated to architecture. I want to include my recent job title and experience, but I'm torn about whether to mention it since it was such a short stint. I'm leaning towards omitting it entirely, especially since my industry doesn't typically conduct background checks, and I have a plausible explanation for the employment gap. I wonder if there's a significant downside to stating that I'm looking for a job that's a better fit for my skills.
