I recently received a job offer for a Sales Coordinator position after a second-stage in-person interview at a company I was excited about. The interview went well overall, but I have some serious concerns that are making me hesitate. During the interview, I was mainly questioned by two people, but a senior director joined towards the end and made it clear that the role is quite stressful with high expectations. They mentioned that the previous person in the role wasn’t performing well, which raised a red flag for me about the work environment. My biggest issue is with the contract. The role was originally advertised as a permanent position, and I specifically mentioned during our initial conversations that I was looking for a permanent role. However, they only brought up that it would actually be a six-month fixed-term contract (FTC) after the first interview. The director said they would reassess the situation after six months, but there’s no guarantee of transitioning to a permanent position, which feels misleading to me. I didn’t challenge this during the interview because I felt pressured when they offered me the job on the spot, and I verbally accepted it. They want me to start on Tuesday, but I haven’t signed the offer letter yet. Everything has been moving so quickly, and I feel like I haven’t had enough time to consider or negotiate the terms properly. To add to my concerns, I’ve read several negative reviews on Glassdoor about the company, mentioning issues like micromanagement and a high-pressure work environment. I’m currently unemployed, so the salary and experience would be beneficial, and the role aligns with my background. However, I’ve had a bad experience with a previous FTC, and I’m hesitant to take on another temporary role when I specifically applied for a permanent one. I’m torn between being cautious and feeling like I might be overthinking this. Should I try to negotiate for a permanent contract and better salary, accept the FTC while continuing my job search, or just walk away if they insist on the six-month term? I feel like I’ve been misled about the role duration.
