I recently found myself in a tricky situation while applying for a new job. I applied for a position at a company in location B, and in my eagerness to secure the role, I told the hiring manager that I had already relocated there. In reality, I'm still employed at my current job in location A, but I'm ready to move since my husband is already living in location B. Now, the hiring team wants to reach out to my references, and I'm torn about whether to include my current boss as a reference. I know my boss has a lot of relevant experience that aligns with the new role, but I feel that including them after my earlier claim could backfire. I've already provided two other references from a previous job, but I'm considering whether I should come clean to the hiring manager about my situation. I’m worried that this could jeopardize my chances of getting the offer. I’ve seen mixed advice online, with some saying to clarify my situation while others suggest that starting off with a lie could indicate future ethical issues. I’m just hoping to navigate this carefully and make the right choice.
