I've been in my current role in performing arts/event production for 2 years, but I've been actively job hunting for at least 18 months. I've submitted nearly 1,000 applications and only landed about 5 interviews, making it to the final round for 3 of them without receiving an offer. I'm trying to transition into corporate events and trade shows, as well as experiential and marketing events, leveraging my production and operations experience. The frustrating part is that interviewers seem impressed with my background, but I often lose out to candidates with direct experience in these specific types of events. My career began in film production, where I managed everything from small shoots to large-scale projects. Now, I handle budgets, vendors, contracts, logistics, and all the details that go into making an event successful. I suspect my resume may not effectively showcase how transferable my skills are. I know event production involves many of the same elements—budgets, timelines, logistics, and problem-solving—regardless of the specific sector. I'm seeking feedback on whether my resume is hurting my chances, if I'm targeting the wrong positions, or if I need to better position my experience for the corporate events space. Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.
