I've recently experienced a significant shift in my role at my current company, where I've been for almost five years. My responsibilities have been reduced, and I'm now expected to train a new hire to take over my previous position, which had more specialist tasks. This change has left me feeling uncertain about my future here, as my new role is more general and doesn't seem to offer the same opportunities for growth or visibility. It feels particularly frustrating because it seems like the new hire was brought on due to personal connections with my manager rather than merit. I can't shake the feeling that I might be getting managed out, especially since the new role I’ve been assigned can easily be handled by many others. Although I still have a job on paper with a signed contract, I’m seriously considering whether it’s time to start looking for new opportunities elsewhere. The advice from others has been clear: it might be best to seek greener pastures before things get worse.
