I recently experienced a layoff that hit me hard. It was a sudden decision from the company, and while I understand that it was a business move, it felt incredibly personal. I found myself grappling with the reality of not knowing how long I could keep my home or how to provide for my family. The calculations of my savings and the looming uncertainty about paying for essentials like food and health insurance became overwhelming. I had dedicated years to my role, contributing to the company's success, only to be told that my position was eliminated. It’s easy for the company to view this as just numbers on a spreadsheet, but there’s a human being behind each of those numbers. People often say, "It's not personal, it's business," but that dismisses the very real impact on our lives. For me, this layoff was not just a career setback; it was a life-altering event that has left me questioning everything. I wish more people understood that while companies make these decisions for financial reasons, the consequences are deeply personal for those affected.
