I have a phone interview scheduled for a corporate marketing support position at a large CPG company that competes directly with my current employer. I meet all the minimum and preferred qualifications for the role, which gives me confidence going into the interview. However, I've noticed that the salary range for this position is quite broad, with a difference of $64.1k between the minimum and maximum. To make the transition worthwhile, I'm aiming for a salary that falls between the 55th and 65th percentile of that range. I believe my experience and knowledge, especially coming from a direct competitor, justify a higher salary. I'm looking for advice on how to approach salary negotiations during the phone screen next week, as I want to be assertive yet realistic about my expectations.
