I recently got laid off from my job, and as I assess my financial situation, I'm feeling fortunate that I don’t have rent to worry about and I have very little debt. A few friends of mine are traveling abroad and needed someone to stay in their home to keep up with the home insurance without the hassle of being landlords. I’m just covering the utilities, which is a great deal for me. I also take care of the home maintenance, so they’ll return to a well-kept place. The only debt I have is from financing a Google Pixel when I signed up for my US Mobile plan. Looking back, that was a poor decision since I really didn’t need an expensive new phone; I could have easily gotten a decent older model on eBay for much less. Despite the current brutal job market, I’m starting my job search, but thankfully, I’m in a decent position financially for now. I’ve even downgraded my internet plan to save some money, and I’m still managing to cover my car insurance and food expenses. I just wanted to share my experience and thoughts during this time. Good luck to everyone else out there navigating similar challenges!
