I’m currently in a tough spot as I'm still technically employed part-time, but my contract ends this December. I've been searching for a full-time position since May. I had a short stint at a company from August to October that fit my schedule, but I got laid off. After taking a week off, I jumped back into applying for jobs. It's frustrating because many companies I interview with expect me to start immediately, which is a challenge since I’m still under contract. I’ve been getting phone interviews from applications I submitted back in June and August, but nothing has materialized yet. It’s disheartening to see how companies can lay off employees without notice and then expect candidates to be ready to start right away once they get an offer. The process feels so drawn out, with interviews taking months to schedule and slim chances of receiving an offer. On top of that, there’s this unspoken pressure to avoid any gaps in my resume, which just adds to my stress. I've heard suggestions about framing gaps as time spent consulting or being self-employed, but it feels like a lot of pressure to justify my situation. I’m just trying to navigate this job market and make ends meet, but it seems like there’s a disconnect between what companies want and the reality of job searching. It’s a battle, and I’m feeling the weight of it.
