I just received an offer after being laid off for 8 months, and I couldn't be more excited! Last night, I went out with some former colleagues to catch up, and we ended up having a pretty funny discussion. They asked me what I was going to do for the next two weeks before starting my new job, and someone suggested going on a vacation. I was honestly taken aback because I've been struggling financially during my time off, and a vacation is the last thing on my mind. I was thinking more along the lines of treating myself to a massage or a manicure just to unwind. It was a surreal moment, but it reminded me of how different perspectives can be when it comes to being out of work.
