Milestones, reflections, and progress updates connected as your layoff-to-next-step story unfolds.

  1. 1

I recently experienced a layoff on October 5th and was placed in a holding period until today, October 30th. Before the layoff, I had already started applying for new jobs and I have an interview scheduled today with a hiring manager for a position I applied for prior to my layoff. This interview coincides with my last day of employment at my previous job. I'm grappling with whether or not to disclose my layoff during the interview, especially if I'm asked about my employment status or why I'm looking for a new job. Technically, I am still employed as of the interview day, and my resume reflects that with a 'start date - present' format. I'm hesitant to bring up the layoff unless directly asked, but I'm concerned about the potential implications during the background check. I worry that if they see my resume stating I'm still employed while my employment actually ended today, it could lead to them thinking I was being dishonest or trying to hide the layoff. This whole situation has me anxious about how to navigate the conversation.
