  1. 1

I recently decided to quit my job at a bar where I had been working for about 3 months. This decision was really tough for me because I made some amazing friends among my coworkers, and they have become my closest friends during this time. However, I felt like this job was holding me back from pursuing my dreams. I was working night shifts every weekend and most days during the week, totaling around 6 shifts a week. I spoke to my manager about reducing my hours, but he denied my request, saying my reasons weren't valid. At just 19 years old, I realize I still have time to chase what I truly want in life before things get more serious. Although I didn't intend for this job to be a long-term career, leaving feels difficult mainly because of the friendships I've built. I also don't have another job lined up, which adds to my anxiety about quitting without financial stability. My only responsibility is paying rent, which is relatively low at £60 a week. I know that leaving a job can feel like closing a chapter, but I hope to maintain my connections with my coworkers. I’ve been told that friendships can survive beyond the workplace if I put in the effort. I’m trying to remind myself that this is likely the best time in my life to take risks and pursue what I want.
