I was laid off a month ago, and my final day is set for early January 2027. Right now, I'm actively looking for a new job and networking, but I find it incredibly hard to focus on my current role. My mind is constantly occupied with the job search and figuring out how to enhance my resume with new skills. I'm reaching out for advice on how to navigate the next few months while feeling like a 'dead employee walking.' I've received some solid suggestions from others, like just doing the bare minimum at my current job to avoid any issues. They also advised against acquiring new skills right now, as it might not significantly impact my job search. Instead, they emphasized the importance of networking—reaching out to family and former coworkers to see if they can refer me to any open positions. I've also been encouraged to apply widely and not be too picky, as the job market is quite challenging. Lastly, someone suggested I take advantage of any unlimited PTO I have left. I'm trying to figure out the best approach to stay productive and positive during this transition.
