Reflecting on Interview Signs and Candidate Experiences in Job Search

Today, I reflected on my recent interviews and the signs that indicated whether I was moving forward in the hiring process. I've had a few experiences lately where the hiring manager mentioned they were still interviewing other candidates, which left me feeling like a rejection was imminent. It’s always that awkward moment when they wrap up the conversation with a polite 'it was nice to speak with you.' I reached out to others who have successfully landed roles to see what positive signs they noticed during their interviews. One common theme was when the hiring manager asked if I was interviewing elsewhere and probed about my timelines. It seems that if they consider you a top candidate, they want to know if they need to act quickly to secure you. I remember the last time I was asked that question, I received an offer within 24 hours of my final interview. On the flip side, I also heard a story from someone who interviewed for a role, went through the entire process, and still didn’t get the job. The hiring manager even reached out to them on LinkedIn for another position, but it ended with a rejection email again. It’s always surprising how these processes can unfold.
