I recently applied for my first part-time job as a college nursing student. I submitted applications to both Fast Stop Markets, a gas station just a minute from my home, and Walmart, which is about 20-25 minutes away. I had a conversation with the gas station manager, who asked about my availability and if I could work night shifts until midnight. I’m okay with that since it’s so close to home. However, I'm a bit concerned about possibly working alone during some shifts, especially as a new employee, and whether the manager will accommodate my student schedule since I’ll have clinicals coming up. On the other hand, I’ve heard that Walmart is more flexible with student schedules, but I’m not sure how true that is. I applied for any available team member role there, but I haven’t heard back yet. I’m weighing the convenience of the gas station against the potential scheduling benefits of Walmart, and I’m really hoping to find a balance that works with my studies.
