I recently faced a tough situation after being laid off just a month into my new role as a Data Engineer at a company I had high hopes for. Prior to this, I spent five years at my previous company where I was comfortable and skilled in tools like Snowflake, dbt, Python, SQL, and Airflow. The abrupt change came as a shock when I was informed that due to shifting project needs and budget constraints, they couldn't keep me on and asked me to resign. Now, I'm left questioning whether I should reach out to my old employer to see if they would consider taking me back. It feels daunting to think about going back after leaving, but I also know that I have nothing to lose. I'm also worried about how to explain this brief stint in interviews, as I want to avoid any assumptions about my performance leading to the layoff. I'm feeling pretty shaken up and uncertain about my next steps. Should I focus on finding a new job or pursue the possibility of returning to my previous company? I would really appreciate any advice from those who have been in a similar position.
