I'm currently working east coast hours for a startup based on the west coast, where I've been for a few years. After navigating some stressful times, things have finally settled down, and I have a supportive team. The biggest advantage of my current role is that it’s fully remote, which has been incredibly beneficial, especially as my partner and I have been battling infertility for over a year. The flexibility has allowed me to manage fertility clinic appointments and rest between treatments. Recently, on a whim during a particularly stressful period, I applied to what I consider my dream company. To my surprise, I've made it to the last round of interviews, but the catch is that the position requires me to be in the office three days a week, with a one-hour commute each way. I'm torn about this decision. On one hand, my current job isn’t a long-term fit; it's a startup, and I don’t envision myself staying here forever. On the other hand, the new job offers stability, and the team has been together for over a decade, which is appealing. I’m anxious about the trade-offs. While the potential salary increase of 20-40k is enticing, I’m also considering the costs of commuting and the impact on my daily life. I fear that I might regret leaving the comfort of my remote position, but I also worry about stagnation if I stay. I’m seeking advice on how to navigate this dilemma.
