Milestones, reflections, and progress updates connected as your layoff-to-next-step story unfolds.

  1. 1

I was recently laid off from FICO last Monday after working there for 6 years. This is my first experience with a layoff, and I have to admit, I'm feeling terrified. I try to hide my fears from my wife and kids, but it's tough. I've started applying for jobs everywhere, but seeing all the unemployment posts out there only adds to my stress. At FICO, I worked primarily on in-house applications, which makes it challenging to showcase my skills to potential employers. My background includes roles as a Java developer, database administrator, and network engineer, but I worry that my experience may not translate well outside of FICO. I do some solution architect work on the side for clients, but I'm not sure if that will help me land a new position. My wife is optimistic about my job search, but she doesn't fully grasp how tough the market is right now. I appreciate any advice or support from anyone who has been through this situation.
