I was recently laid off from my position at a tech company and was offered two weeks of severance. During what was supposed to be my last week, I was offered an extension, but I only agreed to one more week because I had already accepted another job. During that extension week and the following transition period of about four weeks, I was hardly asked any questions. However, just two days before the extended period was supposed to end, I was suddenly bombarded with questions and assigned a number of tasks that were impossible to complete in such a short time. Now, they are withholding my severance, claiming that there is still much left undone. It's frustrating because the manager of my department collected her severance after doing very little, and she was compensated quite well. I really don’t understand why they are refusing to pay me the severance we agreed upon.
