Today, I had a rather bizarre experience while job hunting. I applied for a position at a company that has a secure email product I genuinely admire. However, I noticed that the product could use some significant UX improvements; it felt like the designers might not have ever interacted with actual users. Despite my limited experience in UX, I decided to apply and shared some general ideas on how to enhance the product. Unfortunately, HR rejected my application quite swiftly, which I accepted without issue. What happened next was unexpected. A person from their 'customer success' team reached out to me, claiming they wanted to discuss ways to improve the customer experience, and asked for more details on my suggestions. I was taken aback—how could a company that just rejected me suddenly want my input? It felt disingenuous, and I couldn't help but wonder about their professionalism. Instead of reacting negatively, I chose to respond politely, expressing my surprise and flattery at their interest. I even mentioned that I would be open to discussing my ideas further or considering a consulting role if they were interested. However, I haven't heard back from them since. It's been quite a while since I've been in the job market, especially after returning from Asia, and the things I'm encountering are just unreal. I wanted to share this experience to see if others have faced similar situations.
