I recently found myself in a tough decision-making situation regarding my job. Currently, I’m a hybrid contractor earning $95K, and I was offered a new position at a different company for $105K, fully remote. I accepted that offer and was just waiting for my background check to finalize before giving my two weeks' notice to my current employer. However, right after I submitted my notice, my current company quickly approached me with a counteroffer to convert me to a full-time employee (FTE) at $130K plus a 10% yearly bonus. Now, I’m feeling conflicted. I didn’t have any major issues with my current company, aside from being a contractor, and the commute is only about 20 minutes each way, with the requirement to be in the office just two times a week. My manager expressed a strong desire to keep me on board and mentioned potential growth opportunities based on my performance. I’m torn between the allure of remote work, which I’ve enjoyed for most of my career, and the significant salary increase being offered by my current employer. I have a family to consider, and that raise is hard to ignore. I need to decide soon, as my current company has asked me to think about my options tonight and come back to them tomorrow with my terms. It feels like a lot of pressure, especially since there’s no official offer yet. I’m seeking advice on what to do next.
