I recently faced another setback in my job search after being laid off in 2023. I managed to secure a contract position last year, but that ended a couple of months ago, and now I'm back on the hunt for a new job. I had a promising opportunity that could have significantly changed my financial situation. My previous roles paid $17 and $20 an hour, but this new position was offering around $54 an hour. I was thrilled when I got an interview and even more excited when they fast-tracked me to the final stage. They praised my background and experience and appreciated the effort I put into creating a spec sheet for the role without being asked. I felt confident that I had the job in the bag. However, during the second interview, I completely froze. I think the pressure of the potential pay got to me, and I struggled to articulate my thoughts. The interviewer was not as engaging as the first, which made it even harder for me to connect. I ended up bombing the interview, and shortly after, I received an email saying they decided to move on without me. It was disheartening to see the job listing reposted after I had thought it was mine. I realize now that I need to work on my interview skills. I tend to overthink and sometimes don’t answer questions effectively. I had a great first interview, and I wish I could replicate that performance. I’m considering seeking out mock interview opportunities with former coworkers to practice and build my confidence. I know I need to keep pushing forward and not let this setback define me.
