I recently read an article discussing the alarming decline in entry-level job opportunities, which really resonated with me as a recent graduate. According to the findings, offers for jobs requiring zero or minimal experience have dropped by a staggering 73% over the last four years. Even in the tech sector, which is often seen as a beacon of opportunity, entry-level job postings have decreased by 49% since 2022. This trend has particularly impacted young people, with over 55% of Gen Z planning to seek jobs this year, yet they are facing the highest unemployment rates in the 16-24 age group. It's frustrating to see that the unemployment rate for new entrants has reached a nine-year high. While AI is often blamed for these job losses, experts suggest that it's not the sole reason; there's a growing reluctance among employers to hire individuals without experience. This creates a vicious cycle where it's nearly impossible to gain experience without first landing a job. I'm left wondering how we can break this cycle and find opportunities in such a challenging job market.
