I recently graduated with a BFA and applied for an Operations Coordinator position at a small B2B company with fewer than 10 employees. After a 2-hour interview primarily with the owner, I felt a warm and welcoming vibe from everyone, who reassured me that there are no wrong answers and that they would be patient while training me. The job offers a salary range of $45k–$50k with benefits, and the location is only 12 minutes from my home, which is a huge plus. However, I have some concerns that are making me hesitate. The owner mentioned he is severely overworked, often staying up until 2 AM to catch up on tasks, and admitted that he should have hired someone months ago. This makes me worry about the workload and the overall health of the company. Additionally, the expectations seem chaotic. They want someone who can cover for coworkers when they're out and switch tasks unexpectedly throughout the day. The job scope also feels vague, as they mentioned training on 'a bit of everything,' which goes beyond what was originally posted. During the interview, I got the impression that I was the only candidate they spoke to, and the conversation felt rushed due to upcoming trade shows. They didn't discuss pay or benefits in person, which adds to my uncertainty. I received an official offer for an initial 90-day full-time position, with the hope of transitioning to permanent if things go well. This trial period was not mentioned in the job listing, which is concerning. The offer email also emphasized content and e-commerce work for a new direct-to-consumer sister company, which was not a focus during the interview and deviates from the original B2B operations/admin description. I have a call scheduled with the owner to discuss compensation, benefits, and the starting date. While I really need a job and the commute is fantastic, I’m feeling anxious about the workload, the trial period, and the shifting job responsibilities. I would appreciate any advice on whether I should accept this offer.
