I just got fired for the second time in two months. After completing HVAC school, I joined a local union and landed two opportunities. The first job ended abruptly on my second day of training, which was really disheartening. I then joined a family-owned company that was part of the union, and I was eager to learn. I met with the owners, shared my passion for HVAC, and they agreed to accommodate my schedule since I had a trip planned with my father to bond after my mom's passing. During my first week, I was shadowing my trainer and starting to grasp the work. I asked a lot of questions because that’s how I learn, but I sensed my trainer might have been getting annoyed. On my last day, I made a small mistake that cost about $3, but overall, I felt like I was improving. I even told HR I was getting better every day. However, things took a turn when I received a text asking me to come in for a meeting with the boss. I found out they wanted me to gain more experience with tools and ladders, despite having told them I was looking for a place to learn. I felt confused and frustrated because I had already completed school and had done some work independently. Now, I’m left feeling like I’ve wasted $20,000 on my education and questioning if this trade is right for me. I have $12,000 saved up, but I’m unsure of my next steps, especially with the slow season approaching. I feel embarrassed and humiliated to have been fired twice when all I want is to succeed and make my family proud.

I have a job interview tomorrow with an HVAC company, and I’m feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. I’ve been trying to move on from my last toxic job, and this opportunity feels like a step in the right direction. I was referred to this company by my sister's boyfriend's grandfather, whose best friend used to own it. I know some basics about HVAC, like volts, and I’ve done some brazing, wired heat pumps, and handled refrigerant recovery. I'm currently in HVAC school and have just one month left. I plan to be honest with them about my experience and express my eagerness to learn their methods. This path is particularly meaningful to me because my mom encouraged me to pursue a trade before she passed away, and I’m almost there! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
