I recently made a significant career move in finance, leaving a comfortable job for a new role that promised a 20% pay increase. However, just one week into this new position, I am already feeling overwhelmed and filled with regret. The work environment is fast-paced, and I find myself struggling to keep up with the demands, especially when it comes to working with global stakeholders and navigating different time zones and cultural differences. Looking back, I realize I took my previous role for granted. I was involved in a project that would have led to a permanent position, but I was lured by the prospect of higher pay and better career opportunities. Now, I feel like I’ve been thrown into the deep end, and I miss the stability and comfort of my old job, which was hybrid and allowed me to connect with my colleagues in person. I’m feeling burnt out and regretful, and I can’t help but wonder if I should reach out to my old employer to see if there’s a chance to return. I know they were looking for someone to fill my old role shortly after I left, and while I fear it might be embarrassing to ask, I also know that chasing money at the expense of my mental health may not have been the right choice. I wish I had taken more time to consider this career change.
