I just wrapped up a job search and I'm relieved to say I landed a position that I really wanted. However, it was quite an eye-opener to realize that my success was largely due to the connections I leveraged. I reached out to people I know who then referred me to opportunities and provided recommendations. While I believe I am well-qualified for the role, it feels frustrating to think that networking played such a crucial part in my job search. I had hoped that applying directly for jobs I was qualified for would be enough. It seems like knowing someone can make all the difference.
