I recently reflected on my job search experiences and realized how much I took rejection letters for granted. I always assumed that getting ghosted was just the norm in the job market. I thought that if I didn’t hear back within two weeks of submitting my resume, it meant they had tossed it aside. The same went for interviews; if I didn’t get a response after two weeks, I figured that was the end of it. It’s kind of darkly funny to think that I never expected to receive a rejection letter at all. I’ve come to understand that many companies might avoid sending rejection letters to steer clear of potential lawsuits by not having to articulate their reasons for rejection. It seems sending a simple rejection email is becoming increasingly rare.
