I recently found myself feeling pretty pessimistic about my job search. I’ve been working in fast food and am trying to transition into a server position, but the only job that called me back was for a role that doesn’t really feel like serving. It’s more of a cashier position where you take orders and then leave the customers to their meals. I have training scheduled for Wednesday, which should be good, but I can’t shake the feeling that it might be a waste of time with little reward. They didn’t provide much information about the training, like whether it’s paid or how many hours it will be. They did mention the pay is $17 an hour, which I know I should be grateful for, but it feels like I’ll be working 40 hours just to make around $500. It’s frustrating, and I keep thinking about how important it is for kids to stay in school.

I’m still job hunting with no offers yet, but I’ve completed three interviews so far. Tomorrow, I have a walk-in interview lined up, which feels like a last-ditch effort since I’m burning through my savings just traveling to these places. It’s getting absurd. I recently went to a semi-fast food restaurant chain where the interviewer seemed dismissive right from the start. He raised his brows and rolled his eyes when I walked in, and when I mentioned I was looking to gain server experience, he bluntly told me he needed someone with at least two years of experience. Seriously? For a place like that? It’s frustrating because they waste my time with these strict requirements while they don’t even seem to review resumes properly. Plus, they insist on online applications, but what's the point if they’re not actually looking at them? I’m trying to stay polite, but I can’t help but feel angry about the whole situation. I just hope the interviewer faces someone who gives him a taste of his own medicine because this is getting ridiculous.

I finally got some interviews! I quit my last job on June 13 and have been desperately applying ever since. I had an online interview for a position at Target, but they ghosted me, which felt worse than just a rejection. However, I have a porter interview scheduled for Thursday and a server interview on Monday. While the porter job seems easier, I'm really drawn to the server position because it has the potential to earn around $1,000 a week. I know about the tip-out and taxes, but the idea is still really tempting. I appreciate the advice I received in my last post; it gave me the small push I needed. I'm hopeful for these interviews, but if they don't work out, I'll just keep moving forward.
