Today, I experienced my first layoff after 35 years in the engineering field, specifically in hardware and firmware. It feels surreal to be unemployed at 58, especially since I've navigated my career without facing this situation before. While I have had a fulfilling career, the thought of entering the job market now is daunting, particularly with the challenges that come with age. I have 12 weeks of severance, and I plan to take some time to recover and reset before I start job hunting.
