I’ve been in a bit of a dilemma lately about whether to stay in my current job or pursue a new opportunity. Earlier this year, I was pushing for a raise that ultimately got declined, which prompted me to start looking for new positions. I went through the interview process for a role that seemed perfect for me, but just as I reached the final stages, I was informed that the position was on hold due to the company being acquired by a larger entity. Fast forward three months, and I received an email from them saying they were hiring for the same role again. I was hesitant but agreed to discuss it further. They offered me a temporary contract with the possibility of transitioning to full-time, but I expressed my concerns since I’m currently in a stable, permanent position. Coincidentally, that same week, I received a raise at my current job—still below market value, but a solid 10%. Then, the new company came back with an offer for a permanent role at a higher salary. However, I’m realizing that this new role would involve a lot of stress, similar to the most challenging aspects of my current job, plus a longer commute. The pay increase is tempting, but I don’t think it justifies the potential stress and disruption, especially after my recent experiences. I’m feeling burnt out at my current job but also comfortable. I’ve worked hard this year to let go of some stress, especially after the raise situation, and I want to focus on my mental health and overall well-being. If I take this new job, I’d be starting it while also trying to leave a toxic living situation, which adds to my hesitation. My gut is telling me to decline the offer, but I’m struggling with the decision given the current job market. I could use some reassurance to help me navigate this.
