I recently received an offer to transition from a contract employee to a full-time salaried position at the company where I've been working for the past six months. While I'm grateful for the offer, the salary is a bit lower than I anticipated. Given my lengthy commute—about 40 miles one way, three times a week—I'm considering asking for an additional $3,000 to $4,000 to help offset the rising gas prices, especially since my car isn't fuel-efficient and requires premium gas. I have a good relationship with my boss, who is generally easygoing, but I still feel anxious about negotiating salary. I really dislike the process and worry about how it might affect our relationship. Ultimately, I'm willing to accept the offer as it stands, but I wanted to seek advice on whether it's reasonable to ask for a bit more given my circumstances.
