    I recently left my first professional job and it wasn't the best situation with my boss, which led me to resign on short notice. Now, I've received an offer from a new company and signed the offer letter, but I'm a bit anxious about the reference check mentioned in the letter. I wasn't asked to provide any references, so I'm unsure if that means they'll just confirm my employment with my last company or if I need to provide my own references. I'm hesitant to use anyone from my previous job due to the circumstances of my departure, and I'm worried that not having references from my last role might raise a red flag. I've been upfront with the new company about why I left my previous job, but the uncertainty is still bothering me. Currently, I'm considering using my managers from my retail job during college and a former teacher as references, but I'm not sure if that will be enough or satisfactory for this new position.

    Feeling Miscellaneous Planning Thinking

    I've been working at my current job for three years, which is my first professional role since graduating college. Lately, things have taken a turn for the worse. My boss, who is the CEO's son, has been making my life difficult. He recently hired his younger brother for a position above me, even though I've been with the company longer and have more experience. Over the last nine months, I've taken on more responsibilities without any raise in the past 1.5 years, and our mid-year bonuses have been cut for the last two years. This summer, my boss has had us doing tasks that are completely unrelated to our job descriptions, which has been frustrating. I'm planning to start looking for a new job, but I'm unsure how long it will take—could be anywhere from one month to six months. Honestly, I don't know if I can mentally handle staying in this job for another six months without losing my sanity. It's starting to affect my mental health negatively. I'm considering the idea of getting fired so I can claim unemployment while I search for a new position. However, I don't want to create a scene or get fired for misconduct, which could jeopardize my unemployment benefits. My current thought is to start making mistakes on purpose, hoping they would let me go for performance issues. I know this isn't the best approach, but I'm feeling stuck.

    I'm currently in the process of looking for a new job after spending the last three years in my first professional role since graduating college. My background mainly consists of retail work during college, so my job history is not very extensive. I have two bosses from my current job who could serve as references, but I'm hesitant to use my current boss because if they receive a call, it would reveal that I'm job hunting, which could create tension at work. I'm concerned that having only one reference might hinder my applications, especially since many employers request 2-3 references. I'm seeking advice on how to navigate this situation.
