I recently went through a job application process for a position that I was really excited about. It started when a recruiter reached out to me, and I had a screening the same day. I then had a preliminary meeting with HR, where they told me I was their favorite candidate, which felt promising. Next, I interviewed with the team lead, who seemed to like me a lot and even pushed me to present a case study earlier than expected. I had only one day to create a product and presentation. I spent hours researching their website and even found a mention of a software they developed in a blog post. However, I realized that most of their products were behind a demo scheduler, which made it difficult to get complete information. I created a product concept and prepared a presentation, which I ran by the recruiter that morning. They loved it and thought the team would too. Unfortunately, during my presentation, I accidentally presented a product they already offer, which I didn't know about because it was hidden. They told me that my lack of research was the reason they decided not to move forward with my application. I'm feeling genuinely upset about the whole situation.
